Did you know, 1 in 200 people in Australia have Epilepsy?
Several of our Direct Support Workers recently completed the "Epilepsy and Seizure Emergencies with Midazolam observation" workshop run by Essential Skills in Newcastle. This was a 3 hour workshop run by a registered nurse with a clinical competency for delivery of Buccal Midazolam for use in emergency seizures given at completion.
Topics covered at the workshop include;
• Aetiology of seizures
• Seizure types
• Management of epilepsy
• Seizure emergencies
• The role of emergency medication
• Duty of care
• Documentation
All who attended were very positive about the experience and enjoyed the opportunity for further training.
